NO PROOF THAT THESE WERE HIS PARENTS! Note that Archibald did not name a son Alexander. His baptismal record was not found in the PEI Baptismal Index. However, he did settle in Lot 14, near Alexander on the Ellis River.

Catherine McKay McArthur's gravestone said she was survived by 9 children. Gravestone in Oyster Point - "Sacred to the memory of Catherine McArthur, wife of Alexander McArthur, who departed this life 27th of December 1807, age 37 years. Leaving a husband and 9 children."

There was a will for an Alexander McArthur, Lot 14, signed on 9 July 1839 but proved in 1870 - it seemed to be attached to the will of a younger Alexander McArthur, also of Lot 14. Named in this will, in this order, were Dugald, Hugh, James, Alexander, Archibald, Robert, Mary, Jane, Flora, Elizabeth, and Neil. Most of the children received one shilling, and Neil (Neile) inherited the farm. George and Thomas Lee were executors. Robert McArthur was a witness at Archibald's first marriage, to Mary McNeill, in 1833.

Parts of the 1861 census seem to be missing for Lot 14, where Archibald can be found on a 100 acre property on a map of Lot 14 dated 1866. He was in Lot 14 in the 1881 census.

Newspaper article indicated that he died in 1885 at age 84.

The earliest McArthur will on record in PEI is for Archibald, a farmer in Lot 14. He left bequests to his daughters Jane, Ann, Margaret, and Catherine; sons Theophilus, William, and Malcolm. Lib 11 Folio 307 1880, proved 1886. Daughter Jane had been left a feather bed by her step-mother. Is this an indication that Archibald had a third wife? or that Jane's date of birth from the 1881 census was out by a couple of years?
