Jane Eliza, eldest daughter of Archibald McFadyen and Mary Ann Beer, married John Bowman on 25 January 1877 in Charlottetown, at Trinity Methodist. Witnesses were George Bowman and Ambrose Clow.

In the 1881 census, John and Jane were living with John's parents, Richard (Boyman), age 75, and his wife Jane, age 63 in Lot 31. They had three children, Lucy (3), Wesley (2) and Ira, 3 months. Ira, born Dec 1880 doesn't match either of Harry, born in March, or Alvah, a girl. Also in the household were John's sister Annie and her son Herbert, age 8.

Jane died in spring 1889, in her early thirties, according to the newspapers and church records. By 1891, her children were scattered among family members: her husband John Bowman was working as a hired man in the household of his brother Will Bowman, and gave his status as widower; Lucy was with her McFadyen grandparents; Harry Whitfield Bowman was with the Hyde family, later taking that last name; little Alvah was, at age 8, a domestic servant for the Robert Edwards family, an aunt and uncle on the Bowman side of the family. Annie Lulu, age 3, was with her aunt, Elizabeth Bowman Green. Son John Wesley went to the States, possibly around this time.

Lucy and Alvah also went to the United States. Annie Lulu Bowman stayed on the Island and married William Cooper. Harry was adopted by the Hydes and stayed on the Island.

John Bowman may have died in the Asylum in Charlottetown.
