McGILVARY-MacGILLVARY
James McGilvary (1835-1906), was born in Bass River, N.B. of Irish decent. He came to the Princetown area no doubt on a sailing vessel and settled in Baltic where he met and married Sarah Riley (1831-1891). He
moved the present MacGillvary house from Clermont and it was here their family was born.

Nettie Mrs. Bradford MacArthur, Kensington, and
Mary Elian Mrs. Harry Crossman, Southport.
John resided on the homestead all his life, in 1904 he married Bessie
Woodside daughter of Benjamin and Panzie Stewart Woodside their three
children were born there, William, Grace and Rena. John acquired 64 acres
of land here and farmed, but for many years followed the sea. He sailed
with Captain Blackmore on the "Sir Louis Davis", which took him to the
African Gold Coast as well as many Canadian and American ports, he also
sailed with Captains MacArthur and Captain Bernard. Many interesting
tales have been told by this stalwart and pleasant man, who possessed a very
retentive mind, even in his last years could converse with old and young on
events past and present much to the enjoyment of all. The MacGillvary
