Notes

Note

Alton was the son of George Dyment and Ellen Jane Silliker.

Most Dyment genealogies say that William Alton married Annie MacKinnon and had three children. Although the marriage to Annie can be verified, the children listed fit with William Earl Dyment's family.

In 1913, Alton and his brother Leslie went to the States, to Rumford Falls, probably to work in the woods in the winter. A year later, William (20) and his father George (48) arrived in the US, giving Ellen (Silliker) Dyment as their contact person, this time with Princeton, Mass. as their destination. Wm. A. Dyment crossed the border a couple more times, giving his uncle James Silliker as a contact and his occupation as carpenter. In 1916, Alton and his brother John went to Malden.

By 1920, the family had settled in Massachussets. William Alton was single in the US 1920 census (Dynunt family in Massachusetts).

It seems likely that this is William Alton in the 1930 census - his wife's name was transcribed as Marjorie - a son named Elton/Alton seems to confirm the link. The immigration year of 1916 fits with the family of George Dyment and Janie Silliker:

Name: William E Dyment

However, city directories around this time give William's wife as "Annie E.", so the Marjorie must be an error. In the 1940 census, William is married to Annie (age 43, b. Canada). They have three boys, Alexander (15), Alton (13), and Harvey (11). On his "Old Man Draft Card" in 1942, Alton gave his date of birth as December 10 1894, and his contact as "Addie E. Dyment". He was self-employed, working for Dyment Brothers.

There was a newspaper article saying that one son, Frederick, had been killed by a car in 1928.

Annie's name on her naturalization card was Annie Ella Dyment.
