Notes

Note

A history of the Phillips family published in the Guardian said that Samuel Phillips, a brass-finisher from Devon, and his wife Mary Ann Greenslade emigrated with their children Robert, Hannah, and twins William and James. A son Henry was born after their arrival on the Island. Other sources tell the same story, but say the first Mr Phillips was named Robert.

A descendant, Albert Phillips, said that the Phillips family travelled with the family of Humphrey Dyment.

Samuel - or Robert - died about three years after their arrival, and his widow married Neil Ramsay from Lot 14. William Phillips, on the 1901 census, said the family emigrated in 1832.
