Occupation was ship's carpenter on baptismal records for 3 children. The Joseph Burchill in Davenport, found in city directories up until 1867 (although the later entries could have been for his son Joseph), was a carpenter.

Public Library indexes have an obituary for Joseph Burchill dated 1866, and he is in their probate records for 1866.

According to his son George's biography and obituary, Joseph was born in Ireland, but Joseph said New Brunswick in the 1860 census - perhaps George had his parents' places of birth mixed up.

It seems likely that Joseph remarried after the death of his first wife, Ann Abbott:
