In 1866, Patric Whelan married Catherine Clements, and most of their children were baptized in Brae, Lot 9, PEI - except for Eliza. In the 1881 census, Eliza Whelan was age 6, and in 1891, age 16. Her age was 25 in the 1901 census, but the year given was 1886.

Her mother died and her father remarried. The family below looks like a first and second family for Patrick (gap between Maggie (12) and Joseph (3).

Mrs. Nathanial McArthur Maple Leaf Magazine September 1928 page 277: In Amherst NS on August 13 Mrs. Nathanial McArthur (nee Whelan) aged 48 years, formerly of O'Leary PEI leaving husband, five sons, four daughters and her father.

Island Lady Dead - Mrs Nathaniel McArthur on Monday the 13th passed away in Amherst, NS after a short illness resulting from the shock occasioned by the death of her daughter Mildred a few months ago. Mrs MacArthur, who was 48 years of age, was born in Prince Edward Island but had been a resident of Amherst for many years. She is survived by her husband and 5 sons, Stanley, Raymond, Nelson and John at home and Edgar in Halifax and four daughters, Verna at home, Mrs Henry Hickey of Boston; Mrs Gordon Guefett and Mrs Daniel Guernett both of St. John also her father Patrick Whalen of O'Leary, one sister, Mrs MacDougall, Malden, Mass and three brothers, Charles Whalen of Medford, Mass; Thomas of Melrose, Mass and Henry Whalen of Malden.
