Fire at James S. Creighton Home Fatal to Mrs. Henrietta MacArthur.

MRS. HENRIETTA MacARTHTUR Fatally burned at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James S Creighton, 1900 Southwest Capital avenue, yesterday when an electric heater ignited her clothing. Third degree burns over her entire body, suffered when her dress was ignited by a small electric heater, caused the death at 6 p. m. Wednesday of Mrs. Henrietta G: MacArthur 85, the mother of Mrs. Blanche Creighton of 1900 Southwest Capital avenue. -" Mrs. MacArthur's death in Community hospital followed by seven hours the accident in the Creighton home. She was alone in the house in an upstairs bedroom when the flames enveloped her body. Apparently she had stepped too close to the electric heater, which she had attached a few moments before while making her bed. Mrs. MacArthur, whose burns were particularly severe from her thighs to the top of her head was In a semi-conscious condition, lying in an archway between the dining room and. the living room of the house, her clothes burned from her body, when Mrs. Creighton and her husband, James S. Creighton, returned from a shopping trip downtown. The living room rug was afire where she lay. Extinguishing the flames. Mr. Creighton immediately called an ambulance. The fire was extinguished by the Battle Creek township fire department, and they took Mrs. MacArthur to the hospital.
Mrs MacArthur said she had attempted to run from the room to avoid setting it on fire. Unfortunate, as running had tended to fan the flames on her clothing.

Mrs MacArthur was born In New York City and lived there until two and a half years ago, when; she suffered a hip fracture In a fall at her home. She then accepted an invitation of Mr. and Mrs. Creighton to come to Battle Creek and live with them. She was the daughter of Daniel and Sarah (Baker) Grigg. Besides Mrs. Crelghton, she Is survived by another daughter Mrs. Loretta Halght of New York City, and a son, Wellington MacArthur of Providence, R. I.
