Notes

Note

James Ramsay from Malpeque married Christy Taylor in 1822. James is generally placed with the family of Malcolm and Ann (McNeill), and Princetown baptismal records show a son James born in 1795. A son named James signed a land agreement with other members of the family, and the James Ramsay who entered into a land transaction in 1817 was from Indian River.

James and Christy settled near Campbellton, Prince Edward Island.

Two pioneer settlers, James MacNeill and James Ramsay were instrumental in establishing the church in Campbellton. These two men had married sisters before they had left Malpeque; James MacNeill was married to Mary Taylor and James Ramsay to Christy Taylor. They built log houses and cleared the land for farming in Burton, Lot 7, near St. Mark's Church. James Ramsay was born in 1795 in Hamilton, P.E.I, and James MacNeill was born in Hamilton on January 1, 1790.

Ramsay family tree on the Island Register says children were:
i. William.
ii. Mary Ann.
iii. Margaret.
iv. Alexander.
v. Emily.
vi. Penelope.
vii. Robert.
viii. William.
ix. Mary Ann.
x. Margaret.

There were no baptismal records for the children of James and Christy. No record of a son named Malcolm, after James' father, or Donald, after Christy's. Son William died in 1869, and his name is on his parents' gravestone in Lot 4. Christy died in 1872.

In 1861, James and Christy were the married couple over age 60 in Lot 7 with two males and 3 females between 21-45 (William and Robert; Penelope, Emily and Margaret). James was 8 years into a 999 year lease. They had had a death in the previous year, most likely their daughter Mary Ann.

James, age 85, was a widower in the 1881 census, in Lot 7. Members of the household were Robert, 57; Penelope 54; Emeley [Emily] 40; and Margaret 38.

James and Christy were buried in Campbellton United Church Cemetery Lot 4. In his will, James said that Robert was his only son. Daughters named were Penelope, Emeline and Margaret. Will R-200.

Mary A O'Leary, a daughter of Dr. Cornelius O'Leary, was adopted by James and Christy Ramsay. She died young.

Robert Ramsay provided a home to his unmarried sisters Penelope, Emily and Margaret, as well as Hannah O'Leary in 1891.

Newspaper obit says he died in his 93rd year.
