When he was young, his parents moved to Omaha, Nebraska, moving to Scranton, Pa a few years later. He graduated from Boston Law School in 1906.
In 1911, he married Mary E. Hornbaker.
He was survived by his widow and two children, Barbara and Weston, two sisters, Mrs Ella Garratt of Wilkes Barre and Mrs Pulaski Carter, of Elmhurst, and a brother Vance Lidstone of Honesdale.
