Dan was a ship carpenter, and he might have worked for Eliza's father. Along the North Shore says that Dan came from King's County. He may have been an orphan.
In 1881, Daniel and Eliza, both age 47, were in Lot 12. With them were: Catherine M McDonald, age 8; Ann M. McDonald, age 25; Robert C. McDonald, age 18; and Maggie M. McDonald, age 11/12 (later Maggie Wilson?). There were also 6 young men involved in the ship building industry, including Leo Wilson, age 33, who married Ann McDonald. There was also a Joseph McDonald, age 29, a lodger, perhaps and an Alexander McDonald living next to the family.
