George gave various dates of birth on census records, ranging from 1826-1834. He gave his date of birth as December 22 1834 in the 1901 census.

Perhaps there were two men with this name living in New Brunswick? However, there was only one George Fidler in Sunbury on Hardwood Bridge, Northfield Sunbury Queen's County in a 1865 directory, and in the Lovell Directory 1871, a farmer.

From his date of birth, he could fit in the family of John and Hannah, or the family of Thomas and Mary Fidler. He said he emigrated in 1844, which fits with the dates of John and Hannah's emigration. However, with baptismal records for the other members of that family being available, why would George be missing?

On his marriage certificate, George gave his residence as Sunbury, New Brunswick. The fact that he met and married Jannett Humphrey, from PEI, is another tie to the family of John and Hannah, who also lived in PEI for a few years. Jannett died in 1870.

There is an indication on the 1871 census form that George and "Jane", an older woman, were married in the previous year (November 1870). Daughter Mary was two years old - it would seem that Mary was George and Jannett's daughter. George's second wife was possibly too old to be her mother.

George was alive until 1911, but was not in the 1921 census.
