My Family Tree

On the evening of Wednesday, October 7 1903 the home of D. M. J ohnstone of Long River was the scene of an extremely pretty wedding, when his sister Ella, was united in marriage to George L. Campbell of Park Corner.

George died without a will. His surviving children were listed in the estate documents:
Donald Montgomery, Amy Anitta, James Townsend, Lucy Maud McDonald Campbell, George McFarlane Campbell. Ella was living with her mother in law in 1921.

From the diary of LMM

"When he was 21 George married Ella Johnston. Out of all the world she was the last person he should have married. Out of all the world he was the last person she should have chosen. Ella was six or seven yeaqrs older than George - a pretty delicate little doll who had been brought up in cotton wool because her father and three of her sisters had died of consumption. She was well warned that she was marying a drunkard."

"She has had 8 children, three of whom have died, and expects another."

"The only bright spot in this is George's family. They are as nice a brood of smart, handsome, agreeable kiddies as you could find anywhere."
