Notes

Note

Peter Mcdougall and his wife Marion had one documented son (Duncan); however, the 1798 census and the wording of Peter's will would indicate other children. Unfortunately, no other relationships with other McDougalls in Prince County have been proven.
It is possible that this Peter was a son or grandson of the Peter McDougall who came to Prince Edward Island in 1770. If Marion's first child was born in 1776, then a child in 1799 would be just at the borderline. Peter would also fit with the family of John and Ann McDougall, and this would explain the lack of a son named Peter in that branch of the family.
Note - there was another Peter McDougall from PEI who married Catherine and lived in Kent County, New Brunswick.

Peter McDougall from Prince Edward Island married Elizabeth Vye on 29 July 1830 in St. Paul's, Chatham. Witnesses were John and ? Vye. Both Elizabeth and Peter signed with their mark.

The family of Peter and Elizabeth was found in the NB 1851 census in Northumberland County, Blissfield Parish, page 15 under the name McDugald. Peter was a farmer/lumberman, and gave his nationality as P. E. Island. He said he had entered NB in 1820. His wife Elizabeth, age 46 in 1851, said that she entered the colony at birth and there are ditto marks for all of their children.

Children listed were John 21, Hannah 19, Elizabeth 15, James 13, Charles 11, Rebecca 5, and Peter 1. William, b. about 1850-1851, is not with the family in this census but his baptism was recorded in NB church records in August 1851.

Charles and Hannah were named after Elizabeth's parents, which makes it look like Peter's father was John, if they were following the common naming conventions. Hannah could be considered to be the same name as Ann.

Peter McDugal (55) and Elizabeth (55) were in the 1861 census in Blackville, NB with:
Edward Mallen, 35 - son-in-law
Hannah Mallen, 28 - dau.
Mary J Mallen, 10 g. dau
Elizabeth Mallen, 4 g. dau
Elizabeth, 26
Charles, 24
James, 22
Rebecca, 18
William, 16 (possible this was 10?)

The ages don't all match with the previous census records for this family...

Unable to find Hannah or Edward Mallen in subsequent census records under that name but a couple who are likely them are identified in Hannah's record.

In the 1871 census, Peter (65) and Elizabeth (55) were in Blissfield with:
Rebecca (24)
William (20)
Mary (18) - is Mary a daughter, or grand-daughter Mary Mallen?
Eliza (4) - possibly Elizabeth Mallen, should be 14?
Venus (1) - ? age and name correct? says born 7/12. Elizabeth was unlikely to be the mother of Eliza and Venus.

In 1881, Peter was the head of household, a widower, with his son William and his family. Peter was not living with William in 1891, and I was unable to find him in this or a subsequent census.

DNA connection to one of his descendants.
