difficult to know if there were 7 children, or seven sons:

By the death of Mr. John Stavert, which we deeply regret to record, and which sad event took place at his late residence near Summerside last Wednesday night, there occurs the first gap in a family of eight brothers. The late Mr. John Stavert was 70 years of age, and unmarried, and had been in failing health for nearly a year. He was a native of Wilmot, and first started to farm at Freetown in partnership with his brother James, afterward moving near Summerside, where he has long been one of the most prosperous farmers and deeply respected citizens. He was a quiet, genial, steady-going and upright man, consistent in all things throughout his well-spent life, and deeply respected by all with whom he came in contact.

He leaves, to mourn their loss, two sisters, Mrs. Archibald McMurdo and Mrs. Thomas Humphrey, and seven brothers, Walter, William, James, Thomas, Robert McC., George and Peter, to all of whom the Pioneer extends its sincere sympathy. The funeral, which was very largely attended, took place from his late residence on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock to the Summerside cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest. The pallbearers were Messrs. Thomas Glover, Alfred Small, Thomas Schurman, Wm. Cairns, Frank McEwen and S. M. Hicks.

Stavert Walter Agriculturist 2 April 1910, page 5, col. 2 The funeral of Walter Stavert, who died at Kelvin on Easter Monday, was held on Wednesday afternoon, interment being in the cemetery at Kensington. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Sterling and Rev. William Green. The pallbearers were William Brown, George Brown, Robert McMurdo, A. McMurdo, William Walker and A. Glover. The attendance was large, and much sympathy is felt for those who mourn. Mr. Stavert, who was one of the most respected residents of Kelvin, had only been ill about a month. He was for many years an elder in the Presbyterian Church, first at Bedeque and afterwards at Kensington. Among those who mourn are seven children, four sons and three daughters. Of the sons, three are in California and one is at home. The daughters are Mrs. Thomas Humphrey, North Bedeque, Mrs. Robert Bowness, Norboro, and Mrs. Jardine, Kelvin. Thomas Stavert, of Wilmot, is a brother.

The death of James Stavert, Central Bedeque, occurred early this morning at the age of 80. Mr. Stavert was universally esteemed and respected and was a member of a very large family, his brothers Walter, Robert McC., George and Thomas, and his sister, Mrs. Andrew Humphrey, survive him. He leaves four sons, John W., Samuel, Archibald, and James, and one daughter, Eleanor, all residents of the province. The funeral will be held on Sunday.
