The first settlers on this farm, which was originally the property of William Schurman, were Thomas and Margaret Stavert.
Thomas Stavert (1791) married Margaret Boa in Howick, Roxburyshire Ettrick, Scotland. They came to Prince Edward Island and lived in Cascumpeque for a year. The Staverts moved to Wilmot Valley in 1822, and they must have been pleased with this area as the family continued here for over one hundred years before the descendants moved to other parts of the province. Margaret and Thomas had a large family:
Catherine (1820-1907) married Robert Neil (1807-1846). Later she married Andrew Humphrey (1829-1904) and they lived in Kelvin Grove .

Walter (1823-1910) married Henrietta Jardine (1829-1902)

Robert (1830-1909) married Eliza MacEwen (1832-1917). They lived in Summerside where he was a banker.
Mary (1830-1867) married Samuel Waugh (1828-1908).
Thomas (1835-1920) married Rachel MacMurdo and lived on the homestead.
