My Family Tree

Robert Douglas was the son of William Ellis and Nancy Campbell. He married Elizabeth Malinda Rogers in 1866.

 

Birth records say that many of their children were born in Ellerslie, Lot 12, but the family was in Lot 11 in 1881. In the 1891 census in Lot 12: Robert, Malinda, Louis (21), Maud (20), Howard (18), Lutie M (17), David R (13), Clara (11) and Mercedes (8).

From his obituary in the Guardian 1917

The deceased was born at Bideford in 1842, he was the son of William Ellis a ship-builder of that place. He was married in 1866 to Miss Melinda Rogers, daughter of the late Benjamin Rogers of Lot 16.

He leaves...wife, three sons and four daughters: Louis, a contractor and builder in Seattle; Howard, lathing contractor in Cambridge MA; David of Cambridge, MA; Maude, wife of Permenis Moreshead of Malden; Mildred Helen, wife of JJ Macdonald of Boston; Clara, wife of Robert Hardy of Montrose and Irene, w/o Johnson Haywood of Elmsdale.

Three brothers also survive him: John Ellis of Northam; Penrose and Edward.

Clara Hardy gave his date of death as October 30, 1919 in an "In Memoriam" insert in the newspaper in 1922.

On the baptismal records in Port Hill for their children, Robert Douglas was a ship and house carpenter.
