Narrative

There is no baptismal record for Donald Ramsay, son of John Ramsay and Catherine McKay. However, he would fit with the family in the 1798 census of PEI, and in an interview, his daughter Sarah said that her grandfather had served in the US War of Independence so that definitely places him with Yankee John Ramsay.

No marriage record was found for Donald and Nancy, but their names are on death records for some of their children. One family tree suggests that Donald married first Mary Cannon and then Nancy Grant - if this is true, then Andrew Nelson Ramsay, who married Donald and Nancy's daughter Maria, could not be a son of Donald and Mary Cannon. I don't think this is likely.

If he was the son of John and Catherine, it is unusual that he and Nancy did not name a daughter after his mother, Catherine. Nancy was probably a daughter of John and Barbara Grant, and there was a daughter Barbara. Both Donald and his sister Mary named a daughter Sarah.

Possible he was a constable in Lot 13 in 1833: Donald Ramsay, Jr, John's Son

Donald was buried in the Birch Hill Presbyterian cemetery. His will was brief, naming only his wife Nancy and son Samuel. (Will No 84)

In 1881 and 1891, the widowed Ann or Nancy Ramsay was living in Lot 13 with her son Samuel.
