Note

At about nine years old, he was the younger of the two nephews who emigrated with their uncle, John Ramsay, from Scotland in 1770 on the Annabella. “Baptized October 7, 1759 Iver [son of] Malcolm Ramsay in Ugadell” [Iver/Ivor was used as an alternative name for Edward in Scotland; the date is about right for the birth of the younger nephew Edward Ramsay].

In 1790, he married Flora MacKay of Lot 18 and settled near Keir's Wharf in Malpeque. The couple, by 1804, acquired 100 acres of land on Beech Point Road in what is now Hamilton. Edward and Flora had a family of twelve children. Princeton/Malpeque church records give the names and dates of birth.

He was the Edward of Oyster Cove, with wife Flora, whose will was proved on 7 June 1837. Two sons named in this will were, Neil and Donald. Dugald Ramsay of Oyster Cove and Donald Ramsay of Beech Point were executors. John Keir, John Craig and David Ramsay were witnesses.

Included here is the first elder of the PEI Presbytery, Edward Ramsay in light of his connection to the Rose Hill Ramsays. When the Prince Edward Island Presbyterian Presbytery was formed in 1821, Edward Ramsay, an elder of the Princetown congregation, was appointed the ruling elder.
