Eliza went to Massachusetts, where she married Isaac Newton Thayer. They had two children born in Brockton, Florence and Ada, then two sons born in California (Lewis and Carl, in the fall of 1887). Isaac was on a voter's registration list in California in 1888. Edna's birth was not recorded, but her date of birth was given as October 1889 in the 1900 US census. Elsie's birth in 1893 was recorded in Massachusetts.

Isaac N. Thayer was in Brockton city directories up to 1884, then there is a gap and he is back by 1890. In the 1890 Brockton directory, Isaac N. Thayer was living at 651 Warren. He was a boot and shoe repairer.

Eliza died in 1895 in Brockton. In the 1900 US census, Isaac had the two boys, and Edna and Elsie were living with their aunts Sarah Ballum and Susannah Haywood. There was no further record for Ada, who may have died on the journey to or from California. Florence Mabel married in June 1900.

"Mrs. Eliza Thayer dropped dead last night, at her home. Mrs. Thayer was sitting in a chair in the kitchen, working on one of her children's dresses when her head dropped and she fell forward, dead. Medical examiner Paine was called and pronounced her death to be due from heart disease. She was 44 years old and the wife of Isaac N. Thayer, a shoe repairer for many years. She leaves four children. The funeral will be held Friday morning and internment will be in Holbrook. " The Brockton Times Wednesday March 13 1895 page 2

Mrs. Eliza Thayer, wife of Isaac N. Thayer of Atherton Court died very suddenly at her home last night from an attack of heart trouble. She seemed well and cheerful during the evening and helped her five children to have a pleasant time. The children retired at 9 o'clock and Mr and Mrs Thayer were alone. He was reading to her while she buried herself making a garment for one of the children. Suddenly he heard a slight moan and looking in her direction saw that she was falling. Before he could reach her she was dead. Medical Examiner Paine was summoned.
Mrs. Thayer had suffered with heart trouble since she was a girl but had not had a serious attack but once before. That was four years ago. There are five children, the oldest 11 years and the youngest 3 years. The funeral will be held at the house Thursday with internment at Holbrook. Brockton Daily Enterprise Wednesday March 13 1895
