Smith, Prudence

Birth Name Smith, Prudence
Gender female

Notes

Note

There was a daughter of a Joseph Smith, Prudence, baptized in 1749, and another Prudence baptized in 1759. One of these girls named Prudence, with father Joseph Smith, was buried in 1759.

The Marston On Dove records seem to have the baptismal records for two men named Joseph Smith. There were two separate baptisms in 1761 for sons of a Joseph Smith - one for a William, and one for a Joseph.

Without the name of the mother on the record, it is difficult to know which belong to Joseph and Mary - although it seems more likely that they took all three of their children with them to Prince Edward Island and didn't leave the rest behind.

The story of the Smith family's arrival and early years on t he Island is told in "New London, the Lost Dream" by John Cousins. William Wod married Prudence Smith in 1778.
