Edmund Ramsay's parents died when he was young, and he was raised by Jane (McLean) McLaurin and John McLaurin, of Lot 16. In 1881, he was "Edmund McLaurin" in Lot 16, aged 14, in the household of John and Jane - in the same household there was an Alice McLaurin, age 12. He was Edmund Ramsay, age 25, living with John and Jane in Lot 16 in 1891.

Jane McLaurin, a widow, died in 1905, leaving most of her estate to her adopted son, Edmund Ramsay.

Edward Ramsay was in the 1911 census, in Lot 16.
