My Family Tree

There were two gravestones for the son of David and Sarah who died March 15 1858 at the age of 20. One said William, and the broken stone said David. Since it was a common error to use the father's name by mistake, I don't think it's an accident that David's stone was broken, and another stone has William's name.

There were two death notices in the newspaper, but both were for William:

The Islander – Mar 19, 1858
Died.
Very suddenly, at Port Hill, on Monday morning last, William McGregor, second son of David Ramsay, Esq., aged 25? Years.

The Islander – Mar 25, 1858
Died.
At Port Hill, in the 20th year of his age, William McGregor, second son of David Ramsay, Esq. His illness, protracted for nearly three years, he bore with meekness, patience and Christian submission to the divine will; and on Monday morning, the 15th inst., fell asleep in Jesus, with the full assurance of a triumphant resurrection and a glorious immortality. “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.”

There doesn't seem to have been a son named David who died in 1858.
