Notes
Note
Harriet was born in March 1843 or 1844, daughter of William Dyment and Euphemia McArthur. She married Henry Walsh. Only their marriage bond was found (Harriet Diamont and Henry Walsh, January 9 1868; At West Point, Lot 7 on the 27th ult by Rev. W. Stewart, Mr. Henry Walsh to Miss Harriet Dyment, Summerside Journal February 6, 1868, page 3) - but no record of their marriage in the PEI Marriage Register. Henry Walsh was also from Lot 7.
In the 1881 census, Harriet (36) and Henry (41) Walsh were living in Lot 8, and had six children: James (12), Maria (11), Katie (9), Mary (7), Charles (5), and Jane (3). Henry was a carpenter.
In 1891, Henry Walsh of Boston, Massachusetts and his wife Harriet Walsh, formerly Harriet Dyment, signed a land conveyance with other members of her family, for land formerly purchased by William Dyment in 1877, to George Dyment.
In 1888, they moved to the United States, and the 1900 census finds the family in Hull Town, Plymouth, Massachusetts. They had only the three girls living with them: Mary (b. 1874), Jennie (b. 1878), and Euphemia (b. 1881). On the census form, Harriet said that she had 7 children, all living, and that she had been married 34 years (1866). Henry said that he had emigrated to the United States in 1868, but Harriet and all of the girls said 1888.
Although none of their children could be found in the PEI Baptismal Index, they were in census records with the family, and their marriage records in Massachusetts Marriages gave their parent's names as Henry and Harriet Dyment.
By 1910, Henry was 73, Harriet 66 and only Jane (32) was living at home. In 1920, Harriet was a widow (76, born March 1844), living with Jane McDonald (41), Wellington McDonald (16) and Ella (13).
According to Massachussets marriage and town hall records, Mary married William Breen in 1905; Euphemia married William P. Wills in 1901; Jennie married John McDonald in 1903; Maria Ellen Dyment Walsh married Matthew McLearn; James married Katherine O'Donnell and Charles married Mary Burns.
In 1923, the family celebrated Harriet's 79th birthday with her 7 children present, togethr with 30 grandchildren. "It was a delightful family reunion with mrs Walsh despite her 79 years appearing as the youngest and most agile person in the party. Mrs Walsh is will known about the district as being one of the most active workers in various church and charitable organizations. Among her children present included James L Walsh of Bayside, Mrs Matthew McLearn of Allerton, Mrs Frank Labree, Mrs William Breen, Brighton and Mrs John McDonald, who makes her home with her mother."
