Note
Maggie was born in 1857, but not baptized until after her mother's marriage to James Dumville. On the baptismal record, the minister crossed out Dumville and wrote in Ellis.
In a letter to a member of his family in the States, Thomas Birch wrote in 1887: "Aunt Jane's big Maggie was married in Charl. Town last harvest to a man named Angus Newberry, a widower..." (letter transcription from Leaves from the Birches of Avoca" Angus had children from his first marriage.
