Notes
Note
There is an entry in Washington births for Dorothy Dyment, born to George and Nora on 13 November 1919 in Seattle. In the 1920 census for George and Nora Dyment, children were Henry (14), Nora (12) and Dorothy (1). Dorothy Dyment was at home when Nora died in 1928. In George's obituary in 1953, his daughters were listed as Mrs. Lila Neuss, Mrs. Nora Gordon, Mrs. Jean (i.e. Minnie Florence) Barry of Spokane, and Mrs. Dorothy Burke of Saranac Lake, New York.
George's daughter Mattie Dyment Baker Stokes was in Saranac Lake in 1940; she had a daughter Dorothy Baker in the 1930 census (age 9 9/12); this was probably the same daughter Dorothy Stokes (age 20) in the 1940 US census. There was no entry in Washington Births for a Dorothy Baker, born to Thomas and Mattie Baker.
Therefore, it looks like Mattie adopted her much younger sister, who lived with Mattie after Nora died. There would seem to be only one Dorothy, last name Dyment, Baker, Stokes and Burke. (could be wrong about this!)
