Yeo, JAMES. merchant, shipbuilder, and ship owner; b. 31 October 1827 in Port Hill, son of Honourable James Yeo and his second wife, Damans Sargent, of Kilkhampton, England; m. 25 January 1854 Sarah Jane Glover, and they had four sons and tw'o daughters, of whom the only known name is Herbert; Anglican; d. 13 February 1903 in Wellington. Yeo, a Liberal, was first elected to the House of Assembly in the general election of 1872 for 2nd Prince. He was re-elected in the general election of1873. Yeo served on Executive Council from 1872 to 1873. Yeo resigned from the Assembly in 1873 to successfully contest, in Prince County, the special federal election held 29 September. He was reelected to the House of Commons in 1874, 1878, 1882, and 1887. Yeo came from a family actively involved in politics. His father was a Conservative Member of the House of Assembly, as well as a member of both the Executive and Legislative Councils. Yeo’s brother John’1 was a Member of the House of Assembly from 1859 to 1891, a Member of the House of Commons from 1891 to 1898, and a Member of the Senate from 1898 to 1924. Yeo was educated at a grammar school in Charlottetown. He was a prominent merchant, shipbuilder, and ship owner on the Island. The Yeo firm of Port Hill was among the largest mercantile establishments in the province. James Yeo died on 6 December 1916. Sarah Yeo, the daughter of William Glover, was born in 1833 and died on 19 January 1912.

Will of James Yeo, Green Park, Lot 13. Homestead to son James F; Sons Arthur and John E. Yeo to have the properties on which they reside in Lot 13. Collingwood Yeo, the farm in Lot 11, the Warburton Farm, on which he resides. Wife Sarah Jane, $500.00, daughter Edith $200.00. Money to be invested for his wife during her lifetime. After his wife's death, pay to daughter Mary Jane, wife of Daniel Forbes, $2000.00. The other named children to share the rest of the estate. In a codicil dated 1900, James replaced his son James F. Yeo as executor and trustee with his sister Edith. Edith would also get the homestead instead of James F.
Herbert was not named in the will.

Son James F. Yeo died a couple of years after his father.
