Daughter of Archibald McArthur and Mary McNeill.

Janie or Jennie McArthur was age 25 in the 1881 census. Her date of birth has to be a few years earlier for her to be a daughter of Mary Mcneil, as she said on her marriage record. She might have been born in 1851 or 1852.

The earliest McArthur will on record in PEI is for Archibald, a farmer in Lot 14. He left bequests to his daughters Jane, Ann, Margaret, and Catherine; sons Theophilus, William, and Malcolm. Lib 11 Folio 307 1880, proved 1886. Daughter Jane had been left a feather bed by her step-mother, and the assumption is that the step-mother was Catherine. There is no indication that Archibald had a third wife, so the conclusion is that Jane's date of birth from the 1881 census was out by a couple of years.

James Maguire, age 31, labourer of Nova Scotia, son of Owen of England and Margaret of America married Mary Jane, aged 28, child's nurse, daughter of Mary McNeal and Archibald McArthur of Prince Edward Island in Camden, New Jersey in 1885.

Jennie and James were living with John W. and Margaret Bowden from Prince Edward Island in 1900 and 1910 with their daughters Jennie and Laura. James and Jennie were called boarders, but Jennie and Laura were nieces.

Jennie was a widow in the 1915 NJ census, and in 1920 was living with her two daughters. She died 29 November 1934 in Camden, New Jersey. No relatives besides her late husband were named in her obituary.
