Humphrey was born in 1865, in Petticodiac, New Brunswick, baptized 2 Dec 1866, O'Leary, Prince Co, P.E.I., occupation farm laborer, married in Malden, Mass in 1887, Maria Minnie McWilliams, born Jun 1865, Prince Co, P.E.I., (daughter of John McWilliams and Mary Hillman from PEI); Minnie died 30 Aug 1915, Lancaster, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.

Their daughter Laura's birth was recorded in Malden, Massachusetts.

The Canadian census 1891 lists two children: Laura, age 3 and William, an infant. The US Federal Census of 1900: 6 children, 5 living. The family had emigrated in 1893 and Humphrey and Maria had been married 11 years. Children were Laura (1888), William J. 1890, Annie E, b. 1892; Robert H. and Ruth (April 1900).

In the 1920 US census, Humphrey Dymeret is a widower with children William C (1891, b. Canada), Robert H. (1895, b. Massachusetts), and Lester E. (1908).

Some sources give Humphrey a second wife, Minerva Harris. Humphrey was still a widower in the 1920 census, and he died 30 Apr 1921, Lancaster, Worcester Co, Massachusetts. There was no Minerva Dyment in the 1930 census, or a Minerva Harris in the Massachusetts Marriage Index. Unable to verify second marriage. The only hint that he might have married again is in Massachusetts Board of Charity documents dated 1918 and 1920 that said "Warden, Humphrey Dyment; matron, Mrs. Dyment; salary, $600; served here four years", possibly information dating from a 1917 inspection. However, Minnie had died at least a year before this inspection.

As a namesake, Humphrey was given a sum of money in Humphrey Dyment Sr.'s will.

Note there was another Humphrey Dyment, born Ontario 15 April 1865, the son of John Dyment and Elizabeth Jones. John and Humphrey Dyment Sr. were brothers. This Humphrey married Margaret Connell on 18 Oct 1888.
