Narrative

NO PROOF THAT HE BELONGS WITH THIS FAMILY

A local history says Nathan was born in Scotland and married Elizabeth Warren in New Brunswick before arriving on the Island. Elizabeth was said to have lived in Massachusetts before returning to Canada where she met and married Nathan.

However, both Nathan and Elizabeth gave PEI as their place of birth on all census records and in 1891, both said that their parents were Islanders as well. I was unable to find their marriage in Massachusetts, New Brunswick or PEI records.

Which family of Ramsays would Nathan fit in? Mary Cannon Ramsay, wife of Donald, had a brother Nathan. Nathan Ramsay's date of birth fits with the ages of Donald and Mary's known child. This would be in line with Scottish naming practices, for Donald and Mary to name a son after her brother. For that reason, I am placing Nathan here, although there is no proof.

Nathan's family was in Lot 5 in the 1861 census. There was one married couple, a boy and a girl under 5, 5 boys under 15, and one between 16-21. All 10 were Presbyterians. It isn't clear how many years they were into their 999 year lease.

Many friends and relatives will regret to hear of the death of Nathan Ramsay, which sad event occurred at Coleman on Saturday March 6 at the advanced age of 86 years. Mr Ramsay lived in Bloomfield with his son up till about 2 years ago when by the death of his wife he wished to remove to Coleman to live with his only daughter Mrs Donald McFadyen.
He leaves to mourn seven sons and one daughter - Charles in Staunton, Ill.; Horatio Nelson in Mill Bridge, Me.; Jabez in Fairfield, Me.; Daniel and Amos in Boston; Albert in Bloomfield; Nathan in Montrose; and daughter Mrs. Donald McFadyen, Coleman.
