Narrative

DNA match.

Dan was a common nickname for Donald, and men with this name can be found under Donald or Daniel.

There was Donald, son of Malcolm Ramsay and Catherine Reilly, born around 1813 who can't be accounted for who is a possibility.

Donald married Mary Millar or Mallard, probably around 1838.

Three of their children were born in Port Hill, Margaret, Mary Jane and Catherine. He could be the Donald Ramsay who sold land to John Maynard in Lot 14 in 1853 - but usually wives had to sign when their husband sold land, and this Donald didn't seem to have a wife.

He fits with the Donald Ramsay in Lot 12, next to William Ramsay, in the 1861 census. On one record, their daughter Catherine was from Lot 12.

In 1861, Donald had a household of 5, all Presbyterian. There was one male (5-15), 1 female (15-21), 1 female (21-45), and a man (21-45) and woman (45-60), probably the married couple. From this, I am assuming that Donald could have been a bit younger than his wife, so probably born around 1814-1816.

The family may have gone to Nova Scotia - son James and daughter Mary Jane married there, and Donald Ramsay was a witness of the marriage of Mary Jane to Joseph Turner. I haven't been able to find them in the 1871 or the 1881 census of Canada.

Mary was a widow in 1891, a domestic in River Hebert, Nova Scotia. Since there was a James Ramsay, born 1840, son of Donald Ramsay and Mary Mullard married in River Hebert, I am assuming that he is the son from the 1861 census. Mary Jane Ramsay from PEI, daughter of Donald and Mary, married in River Hebert.

Mary died in Westville, Nova Scotia, the widow of the late Daniel Ramsay of Lot 12, according to her death notice in the Summerside Journal - 8 February 1899, page 5, col. 3.

There were at least three, and maybe more, men named Donald Ramsay that I haven't been able to place. The Donald Ramsay who married Elizabeth Gray; the Donald Ramsay who married Catherine Stewart; and the Donald Ramsay who married Jemima Devine, with daughter Annie Laura.
